Abstract

Citizenship is one of the important legacies of Islamic civilization that remains relevant to strengthening education and nationhood in Indonesia. This study is motivated by rising challenges of intolerance, a crisis of national identity, and the limited integration of Islamic values into civic education. The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of citizenship in Islamic civilization, particularly as embodied in the Charter of Madinah, and its relevance to education and the strengthening of national insight. The study employs a qualitative method through a library research approach, examining recent documents, journals, and literature. The findings show that the Islamic concept of citizenship emphasizes equality, justice, pluralism, and shared responsibility, values that align with Pancasila. The discussion links these findings to theories of religious moderation and civil society. In conclusion, integrating Islamic citizenship values into civic education can strengthen an inclusive, tolerant, and civilized national character within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
