Abstract

Islamic legal philosophy faces significant challenges in responding to the dynamics of social change in the modern era. This study aims to comprehensively examine how the philosophical principles of Islamic law, particularly maqashid al-shariah, can serve as a foundation for adaptation to continuously evolving social transformations. The method employed is qualitative research with a juridical-normative approach and library study of primary and secondary sources of Islamic law and contemporary social science literature. The results indicate that the flexibility of Islamic law through the mechanisms of ijtihad, maslahah, and urf enables adaptation to social changes without abandoning the substantive values of sharia. In conclusion, Islamic legal philosophy possesses sufficient epistemological and methodological capacity to navigate the challenges of modernity, provided that scholars and academics are able to undertake systematic and contextual intellectual renewal.
